Currently playing on my iPod: Marilyn Manson - If I was Your Vampire
While I had Chronic Lyme Disease, I couldn’t work out, and I used to be a workout junkie, hopelessly addicted to endorphins. If I got depressed about something, I’d work out till I flooded my brain with too many endorphins to continue brooding. Cheap trick but it worked. Watching my body cripple up from Lyme arthritis was…well, I don’t want to think about that any more.
I can work out again! I’ve been doing an hour of cardio every other day for over a month, yoga and light weights. It's heaven.
So, what does all this have to do with Marilyn Manson and vampires? The song makes me kick elliptical petunia! It's moody, intense, passionate, and very weird, but then it is Marilyn Manson. I'm also listening to Shout 2000 by Disturbed and, since a lot of you write to ask what I read, it’s currently Stephen King’s Duma Key which I’m loving, (his comments about art and creating are pearls of wisdom from a Master) and I just finished Gena Sowalter’s latest ARC, The Darkest Kiss from her Lords of the Underworld series, also fabulous! (Television rights to her book Red Handed were just sold, so we may see another fascinating paranormal TV series in the near future.) The Darkest Pleasure is next. (I linked to the cover because I think it's sexy.)
Mac vs. the Shades is almost here! We’re finishing two more screens and beta-testing, and it really will be ready to launch this week. My web designers have outdone themselves with this one. I can’t wait till you see it.
My workout playlist is almost all Manson, Disturbed, Rob Zombie and NIN. I need some new tunes. What do you listen to when you work out? Please help me build a new playlist.

I'm so glad that you can work out once again. I'll have to try that Manson song, at this moment I'm listening to "Sweet Dreams".
Hi there...I've really enjoyed reading your books, and I've just recently discovered your blog. Congrats on your recovered from Lyme! How great that you can work out again.
Do you want to stick with the heavy stuff for your mixtape, or are you open to other genres? I've got a couple of different mixes that work well for me, and I'd be happy to share them.
Cheers,
Moira
Karen, I'm so glad you can work out again. It's good to read about you getting stronger and better as we all have prayed. Love the songs you mentioned and will have to add them to my playlist. Definitely love King. He is a Master. I will have to check out Showalter as well. Can't for what you have in store for us next week. Have a great weekend!
Good for you, Karen! I'm a lazy piggy, I don't work at all! ^^;;;; I suppose music that gets me jumpy would be anything by the Black Eyed Peas or Outkast.
I think you pretty much hit the spot with the list there, Karen! I'd prolly throw in a few choice Tool songs, a dash of Rage Against the Machine, and maybe a little bit of old school Metallica but what you have there is pretty darn solid. I gotta admit though, I do listen to some old cheesy 80s pop when I really need to get myself back into things.
You've actually inspired me to get back on my routine and add a few things onto my playlists! Thanks!
I'm so glad, that you're getting better!!!
As someone who is addicted to working out, I can relate to how you would feel not being able to. I listen to music that has a good beat to it and I'm not too picky who the artists are. I have Good Charlotte on my MP3 at the moment.
Marisa
That's a pretty good playlist you've got there! Hmm... let's see...hate music...
Fear Factory ~ Linchpin
Rage Against the Machine ~ Killin in the name of
Korn ~ Coming Undone, anything really
Powerman 5000 ~ Nobody's Real
Metallica ~ Anything...those are my boys!
Deftones, Slipknot, Pantera...
You've motivated me too...think I'll start my workouts back up too! It'll be warm enough to start riding again in no time!
Much love and luck!

Korn- any
Linkin Park - any
Echovalve - Dirty Little Lies (CD out in March check their myspace page for music)
The Rogues - Rogue Trip (Scottish, but fast!)
Needfire - Celtic Rock
Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment.
Hope you like one of these.
Hey Karen,
Its so great to hear that you're getting back into the swing of things. I don't work out (should but don't) however I do cook and clean a lot which is sweaty at times and requires upbeat and happy music to get through.
I would recommend:
Nightwish (I Wish I Had An Angel)
Evanescence (Any)
ILS (Cherish)
Rockell (In A Dream)
Jakalope (Come On)
Splashdown (Karma Slave)
Sister Machine Gun (Wired)
I prefer electronic heavy styled music because it seeps into the brain and helps with focusing. I feel like I do some of my best thinking and idea making when I'm involved in a task. Perhaps this is close to the way it feels for you when you work out. I hope that some of the songs above interest you!

Hi Karen
It is great that you are able to work out again.
Here is a great band. White Stripe. AWESOME. Each song is different and I just can't get enough of them right now.
Check them out.
Thatch
Hi Karen!
Glad you're up able to be up and about again.
That Stephen King book sounds interesting, I might look into that. I had to read On Writing for my reporting class, my professors think it's a great writing guide for newbies. I love Gena Sowalter's series but I haven't been checking her site for new books, been to busy over at your forum. hehe
In my playlist I normally have empowering music, song by women. A lot of Kelly Clarkson and Christina A. some Evanescence and Nickelback (love them) too.

HI Karen~
Glad to hear you're doing better!
Hmm~ all the other posts have great suggestions (Love The White Stripes) I'd add:
Apollo 440- Stop the Rock
Offspring-Keep 'em separated
Kanye West- Stronger ("that that don't kill me can only make me stronger)
I like a little of everything, so anything with a heavy beat or good lyrics gets me moving.
Now if the weather would get above 20 below I could actually go out side and start running again :)
Take care,
Shellie
OK, I'll just leap in with some suggestions from my heavier playlist:
Judith/A Perfect Circle
Temple of Love/Sisters of Mercy
Sin/NIN
Keine Lust/Rammstein
Mother/Danzig
Hope you like them!

I listen to Ozzy, Black Label Society, Black Light Burns, Metalica, Godsmack and techno stuff when I'm working out. My normal work out music goes in this order:
BLB
Ozzy
BLS
techno
Godsmack
Metalica
and the last song is ALWAYS Sandstorm by Darude (techno).
I have found this layout to be great with the warm-up, weights, cardio, stretch, cool down combo.
Hi Karen...my sis Carmie, a loyal follower of ur books, intro me 2 ur Fever series. I've really enjoyed reading DF & BF. AWESOME! Can’t wait 2 get my hands on FF! I definitely have 2 start reading ur Highlander series. Sorry 2 hear about ur struggle w/ Lyme...but happy 2 hear that ur better. I completely understand u re working out...my treadmill 4 me is therapeutic. *giggles* If I have a bad day or something on my mind...I simply run my a** off till I no longer can feel my legs...believe me, I get off my treadmill stress free...along w/ a few GOOD feeling sore places the next day. *LOL* I listen 2 diff kind of music while running...few of my fav; Linkin Park, Def Leppard & Nickelback.
Ur so LUCKY...u get ARC of GS's LOTU series...looking 4ward 2 that series. Especially TDK w/ those luscious lips.

My mp3 player is totally mixed up country, rock, old, new, but my favorite is Nickelback, lots of good songs with a good beat.

Good luck with finding new music!
I'm getting some great ideas for my own playlist here!!! The elliptical is my machine! I do it every morning before I shower for work and it makes me feel so good all day.

Hi Karen,
This is my first time on your blog site. I'm glad that you're doing well. I don't know much about Lyme Disease, but it sounds pretty debilitating. It's refreshing to hear of another woman that enjoys "the heavy stuff" (to quote another blogger). I have been listening to a lot of Tool lately, "AEnima" is a good one to start with. I have also been on a big hair metal kick lately - old Motley Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, Skid Row, and so on. It's really hard edged stuff that brings back a lot of really great memories for me. I just finished reading Bloodfever tonight, I can't wait to find out what happens to MacKayla.
ok so I'm probably really late on this one, but I hope you still see it!
i fyou like manson and NIN and such, then youve GOT to check out the 69 eyes!
they are from finland and my new fav at the moment! they are pretty huge over in europe and i beleive they even toured with manson once and now they are breaking the american scene.
anyways, their whole gig is they say they are the helsinki vampires!! my fav song is "devils", because when i hear that it just brings me back to when Mac was starting to toughen up and really come into her own.
the lead singer sings very very deep, and it actually took me a lil bit to really get used to it and like it, but i listen to it on the eliptical (sp?) and imagine that the machine is the devil that i'm fighting! HA!
hope i didn't post too late!
Good playlist.
At the moment I have London After Midnight - Violent Acts of Beauty on my workout playlist.
Saliva - King of the Stereo
Avenged Sevenfold - Trashed & Scattered, Critical Acclaim, Burn it down, Bromptom Cocktail
Drowning Pool - Rebel Yell, This is for the Soldiers (not sure if that's the exact title), Full Circle
Flyleaf - I'm so sick
Garbage Version 2.0
I'm so happy to find out you have a blog! I have to start out every workout with A Perfect Circle's "Counting Bodies Like Sheep". I turn it on as I leave the locker room to hit the weights, and it feels like it's infusing me with power and the "Damn right I can" attitude that I need to do my workout. Congrats on the physical freedom!
